4-Round Swiss – FOUR Sections: Open, U1700, U1100, U600

Certain sections may have limited spaces so please register early!

Prizes (absolutely guaranteed): Cash awards will be shared equally in case of tied placements. Non-residents of Utah may compete with full eligibility for cash prizes. Unrated players may play in any section but may only win first or second place prize in those sections.

Open: 1st $200, 2nd $150, (1800 – 1999) – $100-80, (1799 and below) – $80

U–1700: 1st $150, 2nd $125, (1300 – 1499) – $100-80, (1299 and below) – $80

U–1100: 1st $125, 2nd $100, (700 – 899) – $100-$75, (699 and below) – $75

U–600: 1st $125, 2nd $100, 3rd $80, (399 and below) – $75

Unrated players, subject to TD discretion, may play in any section but are strongly encouraged to pick a section that matches their ability.  

Format and Time Control: Four rounds, Swiss-system pairings (no eliminations). 

  Open/U1700 Section, all rounds: G/60 +10.  (Regular-rated) 

  U1100, all rounds: G/45 +5.  (Dual-rated)

  U600, all rounds: G/30, +5.  (Dual-rated)

Players are responsible for supplying equipment (pieces, board and clock) and for knowing how to set clocks. (USCF Rule 16B)

Schedule: (Open/U1700 Sections) 9:30 a.m., (then lunch), 12:45 p.m., 3:15, 5:45*

       (U1100/U600 Sections) First round at 9 am, other rounds to follow ASAP with a lunch break after round 2 for U1100 section only.

 * – Note: For Open and U1700 Sections, round 4 will be paired as soon as possible after the previous round has finished.  If both players agree, games in round 4 may start before the scheduled round time, i.e., if your opponent agrees, you may start your game as soon as the pairings have been posted even though it may be before the official round time.  Otherwise, you must wait until the scheduled round time noted above to start the clock.

Entry Fee:  All sections: $25 if registered and paid by Friday, March 8 (at www.utahchess.com), $40 late/onsite.

Advance Registration: Register online via link at utahchess.com. Online registration will be open until 10 pm on the night of March 8th.

Onsite Registration: Onsite registration will begin at 8:30 a.m.  Players arriving less than 10 minutes before Round 1 for their section is scheduled to begin and who have not registered and paid in advance will be given a half-point bye for round one and paired for round two (when that round is paired for all players in the section) or paired for round one at TD’s discretion.

Byes: Half-point byes – One (1) half-point byes may be taken but must be requested prior to pairing of Rd 2. All bye requests are irrevocable after that time.  (See USCF Rule 22C, especially Rule 22C4.)  Additional byes (i.e., more than one per player) will be zero-point byes. 

If a player has a claim to two (or more) prizes, cash prizes shall be awarded in accordance with USCF Rule 32B.
