4-Round Swiss – ONE Section: Open

For ages 50 and up. Proof of age may be required

Prizes (based on 8 paid entries): Cash awards will be shared equally in case of tied placements. Non-residents of Utah may compete with full eligibility for cash prizes. Title of Utah Senior Champion will be awarded to highest-place Utah resident. 

The highest placed Utah resident earns the right to be Utah’s representative for the 2024 John T. Irwin National Tournament of Senior State Champions to be held July 27 – July 30 in Norfolk, VA. More information about the event can be found here: https://new.uschess.org/irwin

Open: 1st $80,   2nd $60,   U1600 – $50

Entry Fee: $25 if registered and paid by Friday, April 12 (at www.utahchess.com), $40 onsite. 

Format and Time Control: Four rounds, Swiss-system pairings (no eliminations). 

Open Section, all rounds: G/60, +5.  

Players are responsible for supplying equipment (pieces, board and clock) and for knowing how to set clocks. (USCF Rule 16B)

Schedule: (Open Section) 9:00 am, 11:20 am, (then lunch), 2:00 pm, 4:20 pm

Byes: Half-point byes – One (1) half-point bye may be taken but must be requested prior to pairing of Rd 2. All bye requests are irrevocable after that time.  (See USCF Rule 22C, especially Rule 22C4.)  Additional byes (i.e., more than two per player) will be zero-point byes.

Advance Registration: Option 1: Register online via link at utahchess.com. Online registration will close at 9 pm on April 12.

Onsite Registration: Onsite registration for the Open section will be from 8:30 am to 8:50 am. Players arriving after the onsite registration time closes, who have not registered and paid in advance will be given a half-point bye for round one and paired for round two (when that round is paired for all players in the section) or paired for round one at TD’s discretion.

If a player has a claim to two (or more) prizes, cash prizes shall be awarded in accordance with USCF Rule 32B.
