Three Sections: Open, U1600 and U800
Open section is a two-day event, August 23-24. Other sections are one day.
Prizes (based on 20 paid entries in each section): Cash awards will be shared equally in case of tied placements. Non-residents of Utah may compete with full eligibility for cash prizes.
Open: 1st $150, 2nd $100, (U1900) – 1st: $100, 2nd $75, (U1700) – 1st: $75.
$100 bonus for a perfect score of 6.0.
U1600: 1st $125, 2nd $100, (U1300) – 1st: $75, 2nd $50.
U800: 1st $125, 2nd $100, (U500) – 1st: $75, 2nd $50.
Entry Fee: $25 if registered and paid by Friday, August 22 (at www.utahchess.com), $40 onsite.
Format and Time Control: Swiss-system pairings (no eliminations).
Open section: Six rounds – (Round 1) G/29 +30, (Rounds 2 – 3) G/43 +30, (Round 4 – 5) G/64 +30, (Round 6) G/72 +30.
U1600 section: Four rounds (all rounds) G/43, +10.
U800 section: Four rounds (all rounds) G/30, +5.
Schedule:
Open Section (6 Rounds) : Saturday – 9:30 am, 12:30 pm, 3:15 pm, 6:00 pm Sunday – 10:00 am, 2:00 pm
U1600 Section (4 Rounds) : Saturday only – 10:00 am, 1:00 pm, 3:00 pm, 5:00 pm
U800 Section (4 Rounds) : Saturday only – First round at 10:00 am, other rounds to follow ASAP
Byes: Half-point byes – Two (2) half-point bye may be taken but must be requested prior to pairing of Rd 3. All bye requests are irrevocable after that time. (See USCF Rule 22C, especially Rule 22C4.) Additional byes (i.e., more than two per player) will be zero-point byes.
Players are responsible for supplying equipment (pieces, board and clock) and for knowing how to set clocks. (USCF Rule 16B)
Advance Registration: Option 1: Register online via link at utahchess.com. Online registration will close at 9 pm on August 22.
Onsite Registration: Onsite registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. Players arriving less than 15 minutes before Round 1 for their section is scheduled to begin and who have not registered and paid in advance will be given a half-point bye for round one and paired for round two (when that round is paired for all players in the section) or paired for round one at TD’s discretion.
If a player has a claim to two (or more) prizes, cash prizes shall be awarded in accordance with USCF Rule 32B.
